The Sleep Council - sleep priority
ASK THE EXPERT – This time of year sees the sales of diet books, exercise DVDs and gym memberships soar as we all try to start the New Year with a New Us.
But all this could be to no avail if we don’t sleep well. There is so much out there about how we should exercise for 30 minutes three times a week and get our five-a-day but there’s never any mention about sleep. Yet a good night’s sleep makes us all feel so much better and can actually help in keeping the inches off your waistline.
We all sleep, but nearly half of us don't do it well. And with those kinds of figures, it’s no surprise that many of you have probably made the decision to sleep better this year.
The clinic answered questions on why sleep is good for your health and wellbeing, how much we need, the effects of sleep deprivation, our body clocks and what healthier habits you can put into place to make sleep a priority for 2020.
Lisa Artis head of The Sleep Council and Dr Neil Stanley answered questions on Thursday 23rd January. The clinic is now closed but you can view the questions and answers below.
The Sleep Council is an impartial, advisory organisation that promotes the benefits of a good night’s sleep to health and wellbeing. Visit the Sleep Council charity page to find out more.
