I have to go for bladder and kidney scans. What to expect?

Hi,
I recently had an infection that required antibiotics. The GP has referred me to the hospital for bladder and kidney scans. I have no idea what to expect. Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi! There,
Please don’t worry about these scans. It is similar to having a scan when you have a baby. They put gel on the area and go over it. No pain, you will feel nothing. They usually tell you there and then if anything is found.

Hello,

I've been having scans and tests done on my kidneys since I was around 3yrs old and for the most part they are painless. As one of the other replies said the initial kidney scan is usually an ultrasound scan. Some bladder scans can need you to have a drink containing a special dye that shows up under x-ray but you will know more when you get the appointments through as a leaflet explaining whatever scans you are having and what to expect.

Hi there ,
they sound like ultrasound scans which are painless and do not include radiation - ideally you should go with a full bladder to ensure good views of the bladder are obtained - go "comfortably full" and let them know you are full when you get there.
