Hello I am 61 years old and it is only for the last couple of years I have become allergic to all metals except Gold. I could wear any jewellery before then and also any glasses, I come out in a very itchy rash which I cant stop scratching.

I wonder if it might be sensible for you to get referred to a dermatologist for patch testing and advice on treating these rashes.

Dear Lorraine, Sorry to hear about the problems you are having with metals. Nickel and cobalt allergy is very common in the general population but there are also several other metals that we see people develop allergies to at any point in their life even if they have been fine with these before.

As Dr Ludman mentioned it would be worthwhile getting referred to see a Dermatologist with an interest in allergy as you will need patch testing to a specific metal allergy series.
