A young boy recently diagnosed

It has been a week since the doctor diagnosed me with Rhematoid Arthritis. I am only 21 years old but yet I feel much older due to the stiffness. It has been affecting my life for the past year and I am struggling to cope physically and mentally. Any help on how to cope with rheumatoid arthritis would be appreciated.

Hi,

I assume you have been referred urgently to a Rheumatologist?

They will involve physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and commence medication to reduce your pain and stiffness.

Have a look:

Hi, sorry to hear how difficult it is for you at the moment. Have you spoken to your GP about a referral for a talking therapy? You might find it really helpful to have a space to think about what you are experiencing, and to learn different ways to manage both physically and mentally. You might be able to explore whether you are relying on coping strategies that actually make life feel more difficult, such as withdrawing and avoiding social contact. A talking therapy can be really helpful in learning new ways to cope with really difficult things. What you are struggling with is exactly the kind of thing that clients come to therapy to explore, it isn't only for people that have been diagnosed with a mental health difficulty. If you don't want to go via your GP, you might be able to access support through a local charity or organisation such as Mind www.mind.org.uk
Good luck.
