Hi

Unfortunately urinary infections are very common with a catheter as the foreign body in your bladder gets covered by bacteria within a few days. The first step is to see your doctor to make sure there is no other cause for your infections, and this may involve a scan of your kidneys and bladder, and a telescopic inspection of your bladder (cystoscopy). If this is all clear, then you're doing the right thing by maintaining a good fluid intake. Making sure your catheter is changed regularly (every 6-8 weeks) may also help, and bladder washouts once a week may reduce the build up of mucous and reduce your infections.

Hope this helps!
