Does eczema affect your body image. If so, help test an online self-help intervention

Hi,

My name is Kate Adkins and I'm a researcher and a Trainee Clinical Psychologist at the University of Sheffield and within the NHS.

Having lived with several skin conditions most of my life, and worked in physical and mental health services, I'm really aware of the potential for eczema to affect how people feel about their bodies, and dissatisfied with the lack of research into ways to improve body image for people living with dermatological conditions. I've therefore adapted an online writing intervention targeting body image in adults with a range of skin conditions, including eczema.

I need the help of adults living with eczema to help me test whether this self-help intervention could help other people with eczema, and other skin conditions see their bodies more positively.

Can I take part?
Yes, if you are 18 or over and have a skin condition that affects how you feel about your body, we would really value your participation.

What does it involve?
You will be asked to complete three 15-minute writing tasks spread out over a week.
You will also be asked to complete questionnaires about your skin and body image (before the first writing task, after the last writing task and 1 month later).
As this is a Randomised Controlled Trial, we are comparing the writing intervention to another set of writing tasks. You will therefore be randomly allocated to either the intervention or the non-intervention writing tasks. However, all participants will be given a copy of the intervention to download.

As a thank you for taking part, you will be able enter a prize draw for a £50 voucher of your choice.

Please let me know if you experience any problems completing the study or have any questions.
