Increased fertility after assisted conception

What is it that causes an increase in fertility after having assisted conception? I am told by the midwife that often people fall pregnant naturally after IVF- is this the affect the treatment has on the body, or is it that the body is in a better place to become pregnant once it has had a successful pregnancy?

I'm not sure we really fully understand this and I would be interested in hearing what other people (both specialists and anyone who has been in this boat) has to say about this?
Certainly we do hear stories of people trying to get pregnant for years and then getting pregnant straight away after something like IVF.
What does anyone else think?
