Is fibro degenerative?
Hello i was diognoed 6 years ago. As the time has gone on i have managed to deal with most of the pain through teaching myself to rest when needed ans when to exercise etc. I am very sensative to meds, dont drink or smoke. However for while now I have new symptoms that arei`normal fibro` but new to me. I have very sensative patches all over my body that wernt there before, u have muscle spasums in my legs that wont go away with numb patches everywhere, im scared to drive because i cant consentrate and my short term memory terrible. Mt husband says i ask things 3 or 4 times. All of this has been in the last yr or so. I have been to the doc who us sending me to a neurologust. Ut just feels like as time goes on its getting worse x thank you for ur help.

Re: Is fibro degenerative?
Fibromyalgia is not considered degenerative as it cannot be predetermined how each person will be affected long term.
However studies have shown that chronic pain does affect the brain. The term fibro fog is used by patients to describe how this feels.
Checking out that the symptoms are down to fibromyalgia and not anything else is important.
Stress will not help the situation and worrying about forgetting things will only make matters worse. Strategies others have found useful include writing things down in a notebook, on post its or on a calendar so you do not have to try to remember. Having places for keeping items where they always go so that you are not searching for things. Mind you, you have to make sure everyone else does the same.
Make sure you are only trying to do or think about one thing at a time especially when you are talking with someone. Research has shown that multi tasking is more difficult in people with fibromyalgia even though this may be something they prided themselves in previously. If you have asked a question, repeat the information in your own words to make sure you have it in the first place and write it down if you need to remember it.
