Re: Toctino - anyone tried it? I would like to hear from yo

Hi, I'm new to the Talk Health forum and am glad I've found kindred sufferers. I'm a 53 yr old female Canadian. My case is similar to a lot of others. Eczema most of my life, but diagnosed just this year with chronic hand eczema. Topical steroids did nothing. Finally Dr put me on Toctino. I'm only on my first week, so not much to report. Except I hope it's a case of it gets worse before it gets better!! No noteable side effects except my hands are very swollen. This of course adds to the pain & cracking. They are so swollen, my knuckles split open when I bend my fingers. The last three days have been unbearable. I'm hoping for relief soon. I'm trying to be patient because it's very early into this new drug. I've heard wonderful things about the results of Toctino and pray for healing

Re: Toctino - anyone tried it? I would like to hear from yo

Hello, I am new to the forum but had a few concerns about Toctino. I have been using the medication since Nov./2014 and saw improvement for my hands but it seems it also took me through some rather significant depressions, excessive tiredness and the like. I cut my dosage back from 30 mg every day to every other day and that seems to put me on a roller coaster ride of depression, kind of up and down, but the ups aren't very high. As well, I am getting flare ups back on my hands. Has anyone experienced similar? Thanks for the many previous posts. Very informative. I am wondering about the vitamin A mentioned earlier and taking it once my script is finished in March.

I've just finished 3 months on this miracle drug, and sadly I'm already seeing signs of the eczema returning. Red itchy palms, I've already scratched to bleeding.

Does anyone here know if my family doctor can prescribe this drug? I was supposed to see my dermatologist last week when my pills ran out, but missed the appointment due to 20cm of snow (I live in a rural community 50km's outside Ottawa) I have been told it will take up to 4 months to get another appointment.

Thanks so much in advance.

Update:
It has been 2 years since I stopped Toctino treatment. My feet are still good but I noticed small signs of recurring dermatitis on my hands. I moisturize them very thoroughly using Cerave, Uremol20, sea kelp bioferment. All these help but I think eventually I will have to start a second treatment of Toctino. The only side effect that I experienced was some hair loss.
I wonder if anybody achieved permanent relieve from dermatitis after that treatment. My doc said that 50% do but reading this forum, I doubt it. Still, 2 years relive is not bad IMO. Thank you for all your feedback And good luck.

Re: Toctino - anyone tried it? I would like to hear from yo

Today I am starting on Toctino for the first time and I am so grateful for all the postings here. I have suffered from a skin problem on my feet for 9 years without anyone defining the problem specifically until this week. Blessing to the new dermatologist I am seeing after moving to a new city in Canada. In the early years I was able to have periods of remittance from the cracks and fissures and itchy dry blisters on my feet. In the last few years nothing has helped - mostly cortisone creams prescribed by 3 different specialists and my family doctor and light treatment from my chiropractor as well as allergy tests recommending products not to use. Nothing has helped. I am only able to walk by taping my feet with duck tape to hold the cracks together. Now I feel hopeful both from the recommendation from my doctor and the comments here. In Alberta the cost was $846 Cdn for one month. I have no other coverage but I am desperate. Until today, reading these posts I have felt like a freak because of this condition which no one could seem to name. I will post my progress. Thanks to everyone who has shared here.

Re: Toctino - anyone tried it? I would like to hear from yo

Hi guys. Quick background. I'm 44 yr male and have had eczema flare ups for the last 25 years every 5 years or so. Usually just my feet but this time both my hands and feet and more severe than before and not going way. I have been on Toctino 30 mg for the last 25 days. After 2 weeks my hands cleared very well and my feet were starting to show signs of improvement. A few days ago both my hands and feet flared up again and are peeling the layer of skin off again. I have seen posts of minor breakouts but was wondering if anyone has seen bigger setbacks in the course of treatment.

I will keep posted on my progres.

Re: Toctino - anyone tried it? I would like to hear from yo

I am 35 male, suffering from eczema since last 4-5 years. Learned about Toctino 2 years ago, but was scared of side effects and cost, too. Finally started taking it as of today after 37 days my both hands are 99.9% clear, still flares on feet soles are not quiet good looking. Since I started taking toctino, I am having headaches (sometimes severe) and red eyes, looks like having not enough sleep. Anyone has the same side effects? How frequently blood work is required during treatment with toctino? (I am getting different opinions from 2 doctors) Any comment would be appreciated.
