My husband has terrible psoriasis on his elbows and knees, he uses strong creams but feels embarrassed wearing short sleeves at work as it is very prominent.
Is there any other creams he could try?

Hello there,

There are a variety of creams which can be used but they are only effective up to a point. When they are no longer keeping things in check, we often recommend escalating up the ladder to light treatment or tablets. You might find this information sheet helpful.

Hello,

Feelings of embarrassment are known to be associated with psoriasis. As well as exploring new medical treatments it is important to keep an eye on the psychological impact of this longterm condition. Partners and loved ones play a crucial role in providing comfort and support. Do consider visiting the Psoriasis Association and Psoriasis and Psoriasis and Psoriatic Arthritis Association (PAPAA) to build up your knowledge of what support is available for people affected by this skin condition.

If you're worried about your husbands psychological wellbeing then also consider supporting him to seek help from his GP. NHS guidance (from NICE) encourages GPs to keep an eye out for the psychological needs of people receiving treatment for psoriasis and there is evidence that talking therapies and approaches involving stress reduction and mindfulness can be useful in the management of the condition. There is some further information on this on the British Association of Dermatologists skinsupport.org.uk website.

Best wishes,
