How much sleep should you have?

What's the best guide on how much sleep to get as you hear of successful people functioning on 5 hours sleep due to the belief that "you sleep when you're dead".

Thanks,

Re: How much sleep should you have?

The amount of sleep you need is the amount that allows you to feel awake, alert and focused the next day. Sleep need is individual and genetically determined so you need to get the sleep you need. This can vary from between 4 hours to around 11 hours. However there are few people who can genuinely thrive on 5 hours sleep. The successful one who claim to are almost certainly just boasting.

Re: How much sleep should you have?

Thank you for your response it is indeed very helpful. I've often survived on 6 hours sleep where I feel as good as 8 hours so this helps understand why this is the case rather than forcing a strict set time its going with what works.
