Hi there,

I guess it depends what you mean by sleep training, but the simple answer is ‘no, sleep training is not bad for your child’ and in fact it can be a very good thing. Getting a good night’s sleep is really important for a child’s mental, emotional and physical health. It is also also important for parents too!

Whilst I would not advocate allowing children to ‘cry it out’ there are lots of supportive ways to help ‘train’ your child so that they are able to enjoy bedtime and look forward to a good night’s sleep. The key to most of these is consistency. Whatever you try – stick at it. Having a consistent and relaxing bedtime routine is key. Feel free to respond or if you would like more information you can download or order a copy of our Goodnight Guide for Children https://sleepcouncil.org.uk/helpful-leaflets/

Hope this help!
