which simple approach helps more against common acne

I understand it might be a general question, but based on averages & statistics, which simple approach helps more against common acne:

- physical & mental hygiene ( oily types of skin )

- diet

- sun exposure ( I wasn't born here and working indoors, dust, ventilation, less sun / outdoors get me some pimples)

- teenager sex (that vulgar belief of " blood change") when the first young acne phase bursts

Thank you

Re: which simple approach helps more against common acne

Thank you for your question. Hygiene generally does not help acne although it is important for general health.

Diet - any chocolate (as little as 10 gm per day) makes acne worse. There is some evidence also that excessive dairy may make acne worse.

Sun exposure can make acne better during the sun exposure but beware of risks of skin cancers and also sun light ages skin.

Smoking makes acne worse.

There is no evidence that sex affects acne in any way.

To treat mild acne you can use over the counter benzoyl peroxide. If it is more severe or does not respond to the treatment consult your GP for an antibiotic, Epiduo or DUAC gel and for ladies combined oral contraceptive pill. Your doctor can also refer you to a dermatologist for Roacutane treatment.

I hope this is helpful.
