12 year old with Down’s syndrome and bladder issues

I have a 12 year son who has Down’s syndrome. He has had constipation and now has an ACE stoma to manage his bowel, his operation was in April 17. Although he has achieved being clean he is still in pull ups at night, he wakes with a wet pull up but will do a full wee on the toilet in the morning. He came out of pull-ups in the day in Jan this year, he uses the toilet and doesn’t have full blown wees in his underwear but he always has a wet patch and we can’t work out if he is dribbling throughout the day and can’t help it, he has low muscle tone so wondered if this was anything to do with it, or if he is holding his wee in. He can get up in the morning and do a full wee on the toilet for example, wipe himself go in his room put his pants on and then have a wet patch, it seems like he can’t help it. I wondered if after six months it is too early tell if there was an underlying problem or if it will just take more time to be completely dry.

Any advice welcome

Many thanks

Lynsey

I would advise seeking help on this issue - initially from your GP (which you may already have done) or if necessary from a specialist paediatric urologist - sounds like further assessment should be undertaken. From the info you give my first simple test would be a post void bladder scan to see if the bladder is emptying efficiently....

This is a complex situation and you need to be seen by your paediatric specialist to discuss this further.
