Over active bladder and bladder diverticulum with a valve

Hi
I have an Over active bladder and bladder diverticulum with a valve. At present I take vesicare 5mg every evening. Betmiga was more effective, but raised my blood pressure.
Is there a better medication or something else I can do to help my condition. Without the meds I was running to the loo very frequently. Also what are the long term problems with taking Vesicare.
Thanks

Re: Over active bladder and bladder diverticulum with a valv

Hi Sue
Glad to hear some of the meds are helping, its a shame about the Betmiga. You can increase the dose of Vesicare to 10mgs a day - did you know that? Have a word with your GP. The side effect profile will be increased (dry eyes, mouth, constipation) but this may help. You don't mention your age but there are some concerns about long term use of medications like vesicare in the elderly, maybe chat with your GP about that.
There really isn't any other meds to try for OAB but you can avoid bladder irritants like caffeine, alcohol, citrus, vitamin drinks, high sugar foods and fluids, and smoking. Are you under the care of a Urologist for the bladder diverticulum?
Best wishes

Re: Over active bladder and bladder diverticulum with a valv

Hi
Thanks for your reply. As it happens I saw my gp
for a meds review today. We discussed the side effects of vesicare,- dizziness, memory problems, so i am loath to increase the dose. In fact I intend to try not take it if I know I am going to have a light day. I'll see how that goes. Re the diverticulum, the urologist said the only option other than meds was surgery. He said this was major surgery and it wasn't something he was prepared to do as my condition isn't severe enough.
Out of interest, does Betmiga have fewer side effects than vesicare (leaving aside the high blood pressure)
Thanks for your advice

Not clear waht you mean by 'valve'
If there is bladder overactivity not responding to drug therapy then other options such as botulinum toxin and sacromodulation can be considered
Need to discuss with a urologist / specialist nurse practitioner
