Sometimes I can’t wait

On a reasonably frequent basis I feel the need to go but really can’t wait very long at all-it has happened on occasions when I’m out and certainly would leak if I didn’t get to the toilet on time. Doesn’t seem to be related to what I’ve eaten or anxious about anything. Other times no problems. I have tried pelvic floor exercises in the past which have definitely helped with leakage of urine when I sneeze etc. Is this a related issue

Re: Sometimes I can’t wait

Pelvic floor exercises can help both bladder and bowel, and also improve sphincter function if done correctly. It’s certainly worth revisiting these and following a structured programme for 12 weeks for optimum improvement. Anatomical positioning when in toilet can also help. The rectum is a c shape and empties best when in an elongated squat position. This can be achieved by raising the knees above the hips when seated on the toilet (by resting feet on upturned bowl or folded towels)

You may also benefit from speaking to your GP and asking to be referred to your continence service. They will be able to help you with Pelvic Floor Exercises and also explore the possibility of using containment products such as anal inserts or plugs which can be worn between bowel movements and limit the unpredictability of bowel leakage.
