Hi I am 35 years old and have been having this bowel leakage problem for a few years now where after going to the toilet and then start doing something active it starts to leak and ends up very sore for a day or so. Is there any reason and soloution to this. Please help I am so embarrassed.

This maybe a weakness in the muscle tone and sphincters essential for continence.. anatomically, the best position to ensure the rectum and anal canal are emptied effectively is to have the knees higher than the hips when sat in a toilet (as long as you have no hip issues). Try balancing your feet on rolled up towels, upturned plastic bowl etc to get the knees higher up in the toilet. Bend forwards slightly
There are medical aids to help control leakage such as plugs or mini irrigation kits. Also exercises aimed at improving the tone and tolerance of the sphincter and muscles may be of benefit

You may benefit from a referral to your local continence service or specialist physiotherapist. They will be able to assess your pelvic floor tone and design an exercise program to help you. They also have detailed knowledge of products that can help you to manage leakage such as anal inserts or plugs which are available on prescription.
