Mesh bladder repairs

I’m due to have a bladder repair as part of a hysterectomy operation and am apprehensive due to the news on meh problems. Are there alternatives and what are they ? I don’t want to jump out of the proverbial frying pan.

Re: Mesh bladder repairs

Thank you for your message. Indeed there has been a lot of news coverage regarding the potential risk of mesh-related complications, and it is important that you have a full discussion about all these issues with your surgeon before proceeding. Depending on the type of incontinence you have, there are a number of other options and you should be aware of all of these so you can make an informed judgement about which procedure you would like. I would suggest speaking to your surgeon in the first instance, and if you are unsatisfied then I would recommend seeking a second opinion before proceeding with surgery that would potentially be irreversible.
