Re: TOTP

Hi Elaine Thank you for your message. The TOT is a good surgical treatment for stress urinary incontinence but in a small proportion of people it can make it harder for you to empty your bladder, exactly as you describe. This may be one of the reasons why you feel things haven't really improved much...

Re: Urinary tract infections

Hi BluebirdAnthony I'm sorry to hear the problems you've been having. Your ankylosing spondylitis and any medications you're taking for this can have an effect on your bladder function, as well as the surgery you've previously had. I tend to agree that if you have urine infections on your urine test...

Re: 0-10 in 2 minutes

Hi jobigeroberts How long have you had these symptoms for? If it's a new problem then you should have a urine sample checked to make sure there are no signs of any other problems that could be causing your symptoms. Are there any triggers that you can think of (for example cold weather, running wate...

Re: new nightime problem...

Hi Macocada I'm sorry you're experiencing such distressing symptoms. I have not heard of statins causing urinary incontinence although it has been very rarely reported. However, if this were the cause then things should improve now that you've stopped the statin. Your urologist should investigate yo...

Re: Complete retention of a 4yr old boy

Hi

I'm sorry to hear of the problems you've been having with your son's diagnosis and it must be very distressing for both of you. Has he ever seen a Urologist for this issue? Has he had scans of his kidneys and bladder? Does he have any problems with his bowels?

Re: Recurrent UTI

Hi philip25 If you have been catheterising for 12 years but only started developing UTI's more recently, you should make sure your urologist has excluded any other causes for your infections. I would normally perform a scan of your kidneys and bladder to make sure you haven't developed stones that m...

Re: Blocked Catheters

HI JaneHarris Catheter blockages are very common and can be quite difficult to manage. I'm sure you're doing the simple things already, but just in case - try to keep well hydrated and drink around 2L of fluid per day to prevent the build up of mucous that may block the catheter. Have your catheter ...

Re: Painkillers and problem s

Thanks for your question. There are a number of things that could be causing your symptoms of burning and lack of wee. It is important to make sure you stay well-hydrated and drink around 2L of fluid per day, as well as having a healthy balanced diet with high fibre to try to improve your bowel func...

Re: Diet changes?

Recurrent UTI's are a significant problem for many women and there are a number of factors that can predispose to infections. In my specialist UTI clinic, I often discuss dietary factors. There are no foods or drinks that have consistently been shown to cause UTI's, and the the most important thing ...
