Re: Use of FODMAP diet for IBS
Hi, thank you Julie for your previous very comprehensive answer. Regarding PPIs, there is some concern that long term use of these is contributing to some health problems, including interfering with bacterial growth in the bowel, and IBS symptoms. The best way to take PPIs is to just limit them to w...

Re: Bedwetting in a 10 year old
Hi there, first of all, your poor son - it is an awful thing - but actually far more common than you think. Children and their parents hardly ever tell anyone about it so they think they are the only ones, but actually it is very common. The good news is that he will certainly grown out of it one da...

Re: Loose Stools
Hi there, IBS is a diagnosis of exclusion. By that we mean that we should check out other causes of symptoms such as diarrhoea, and once we know it is nothing more serious, we can attribute the symptoms to something like IBS. There are other causes of diarrhoea, so I suggest you get checked out by y...

Re: Bladder infection & IBS
Hi there, if you are having a change of bowel habit then this needs checking out by your GP before you blame it on the surgery. Similarly if you have a bladder infection then you should have a urine test to make sure you are OK. Menopause and surgery can rock the boat, and your trouble may settle, o...

Re: Bile Salt Malabsorbtion
Hi there, if you have had any bowel or gall bladder surgery then this can upset the bile salt absorption. However, some people just suffer with it. Questran is the right treatment, some people suffer all their lives, and some people get better. If your biopsies are normal then you don't have coeliac...

Hi, if you actually have an infection caused by bacteria in your bladder then you will need some antibiotics to clear it.

Re: IBS back after orthopaedic surgery
Hi there, I quite agree with Sharon that stress, trauma and pain-killers can all have an effect on the bowel, and all can make symptoms such as IBS worse. However, any change in bowel habit should be taken seriously and I suggest you have a chat with your GP to make sure he or she is happy that it i...
