Re: Should I be concerned?

Dear Elaine, Here is the list from the BLF of specialist centres for ILD file:///Users/joanna/Downloads/pulmonary-fibrosis-services-map-080115.pdf If that link does not work here is the original page http://www.blf.org.uk/Page/IPF-Services-around-the-UK good luck and would, of course, be delighted t...

Re: I'm so breathless

I am so sorry that your symptoms are so severe and I agree that it would be very reasonable to refer you to a respiratory consultant for further assessment of your airways disease as this does not sound typical for straight forward asthma.

Re: breathing and chest pains

Dear Black Panther I am sorry about your symptoms. I agree with Dr Webberley that the duration of the symptoms is reassuring. However, you do say that they have been getting gradually worse. I think that I would want to see full lung function testing and a 6 minute walk test. Presumably you have had...

Re: breathing excersises

Dear Elounda, I am so sorry to hear that you have IPF. I agree with the above posts and I think Malcolm gives you a very good guide to breathing exercises. I do think that if done regularly these can really help with some of the symptoms of PF. I am interested to hear about your mucus production. A ...

Re: Full Lung Transplant

Dear Pammy, I am sorry that you are so unwell from your lung condition. The usual figures that are quoted are that around 80% of patients will survive one year and 50% will survive 5 years post transplant. As Professor Brown says you will need to take medication long term and in reality having a tra...

Re: Why confine the discussion to IPF?

Dear Malcolm. I completely agree. The majority of our patients at UCLH with pulmonary fibrosis do not have IPF. Unfortunately this group are not yet eligible for some of the novel therapies but we hope they will be soon.
Very best wishes Jo

Re: Should I be concerned?

Dear Elaine Sorry for the double post. rheumatoid arthritis also causes lung fibrosis that can be indistinguishable from that seen in IPF. I agree a very complex case. We see patients from anywhere if they are happy to come to us. There will be a centre closer to you but I not entirely sure which ho...

Re: Should I be concerned?

Dear Elaine, Firstly well done for your own understanding and detective work. The whole area of interstitial lung disease is complex. Almost any insult (inhaled such as dust or bird feathers) or circulating (medication or certain autoantibodies) can cause lung damage in an individual. The lung eithe...

Re: Should I be concerned?

Dear Grovee01 I was so sorry to hear that your mother died so quickly and so young from what sounds like Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (CFA) and of your brother's death at an even younger age. I think that it is very sensible to try and get the information from his respiratory consultant and, if pos...
