Re: Discharge

Discharge is normal in a woman due to the hormonal changes relating to your monthly menstrual cycle. A discharge is a post-menopausal woman may need further swabs and investigations. A discharge is not a symptom or LS alone. Women with LS who tend to use lots of panty liners can paradoxically have a...

Re: Steroids

I advise women with LS to avoid reading the leaflet for exactly the reasons you say. LS and other skin condition break the surface of the skin and the skin will not heal until the correct topical steroid therapy is applied. If you have had a biopsy I advise using your emollients twice daily and usin...

Re: LS and vulval eczema

I'm sorry you're suffering so much discomfort. I personally find dermol 500 can be irritant for some women and I tend to avoid it as routine therapy. Stick to washing with cetraben and reapplying it twice a day. I don't have many patients with both LS and eczema but I do have women who find dermovat...

Re: Diagnosis

I'm sorry you've had this diagnostic problem. It depends where the biopsy was taken from and what clinical information was given to the pathologist to help them submit a correct report. Getting a second biopsy may be helpful but seeing a dermatologist who can get the correct diagnosis for you and re...

Re: lichen sclerosus and scleroderma

Lichen sclerosus is thought to be a form of localised scleroderma (both affecting connective tissue) without any of the other internal problems. LS of the skin doesn't lead to scleroderma but the two conditions can co-exist.

Re: Cancer risk?

I think it is more logical to just use dermovate to treat your LS. You should not need to use Elocon on a daily basis for maintenance. If you are under control then you can usually cut down your dermovate to twice/week. It is important to use a soap free emollient cream which is both a cleanser and ...

Re: What’s my diagnosis

The white clumps of skin may very well be consistent with LS. White clumps aren't usually due to lichen planus. Thrush tends to cause a discharge which you donn't mention. I would suggest using your dermovate regularly ie helf a finger tip unit daily for one month, then alternate days for a month an...

Re: Maintenance & continuing erosion

I'm sorry to hear that you've been having difficulty accessing correct follow up. Please speak to your GP practice again and ask for a face to face appointment to discuss your concerns. It is your right to ask for this. using dermovate twice a week is likely to be the best form of maintenance therap...

Re: Steroid use and ovulation

I'm sorry this has clearly caused you considerably anxiety. However, in my experience I have never seen Eumovate or any steroid cream when used correctly as prescribed cause menstrual disturbance. Lots of other factors can cause menstrual disturbance and I would suggest exploring these before abando...

Re: Fusing

I'm not sure if you have LS or not causing the fusion. Some post-menopausal women without LS can get some labial fusion. If you do have LS then using your dermovate regularly is really important. It should be combined with daily vaginal dilation using silicone dilators particularly if you're finding...
