An Emergency Nurse's perspective on the importance of health literacy
One thing that can really upend confidence in your health is a visit to A&E. Whether it’s a nasty fall or an allergic reaction, being in the emergency room can feel like you’re back to square one with your chronic condition. That’s why we have invited A&E Nurse, Beth Cooper, to share her expert tips for increasing your health knowledge to make sure you steer clear of ambulance trips. She is here to help you quit waiting times, injuries and unexpected journeys to the hospital by increasing your health literacy and awareness of self-management. This webinar will cover the importance of health literacy, what it is, and why some people face barriers to learning more about their bodies than others.

Bethany Cooper
Beth has worked in healthcare since the age of 15, and graduated with a first class degree in Adult Nursing in 2017. The majority of her clinical career has been spent working in a busy Emergency Department in Yorkshire, where she was promoted to Sister. She completed a Masters degree in Trauma Science from Queen Mary University of London in 2019, research from which has recently been accepted for publication in a medical journal.
Over the past year Beth has been working alongside her nursing as a freelance health sciences and medical writer, researching and publishing articles in an attempt to broaden public access to health knowledge. She is passionate about health, and encouraging individual health literacy and engagement.

British Skin Foundation: LIVE Skin Cancer Q&A
If there is anything that you should be carrying around with you at the height of summer (and all year long!) it’s SPF. Not only does wearing suncream prevent skin from burning - which increases your risk of skin cancer - but it also decreases your risk of developing melanoma by around 50%. The British Skin Foundation’s Dr Adil Sheraz is here to share his expertise on all things skin cancer, SPF, and beyond! We are inviting all of our members to ask their questions before the webinar so that Dr Sheraz can answer their queries at the event. So, sign up and send us your questions.

Dr Adil Sheraz
Dr Sheraz graduated from St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London Hospital School of Medicine in 2005 where he also intercalated and obtained a BSc in Molecular Therapeutics. His training in General Medicine took place in various London hospitals and he gained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians in 2010.
Dr Sheraz is on the specialist register and his interests include skin cancer, skin surgery, psoriasis, general adult dermatology, acne and allergy. He regularly provides teaching and lectures to undergraduates and post graduates and has been an examiner for the dermatology section for medical students at King’s College Hospital.
