Tina Bennett

Cardiomyopathy support nurse with the Cardiomyopathy Association and arrhythmia nurse specialist

Tina Bennett has been working with heart patients for over 16 years, including being a sister on a coronary care unit and a chest pain nurse specialist. Over the last four years she has specialised in inherited cardiac conditions, including the cardiomyopathies (heart muscle diseases) and the channelopathies (disorders of the ion channels).

As an inherited cardiac conditions nurse specialist she ran nurse-led clinics at the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, working closely with genetics colleagues and providing telephone support to patients and their families. She then became an arrhythmia nurse specialist, assessing, diagnosing and supporting patients with a variety of heart rhythm problems. Some of these patients required pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators, and some needed ablation procedures.

Since 2012 Tina has taken on an extra role as a cardiomyopathy support nurse for the Cardiomyopathy Association, a charity that provides information and support to affected families.
