Professor Christopher Eden

Consultant Urologist

Professor Christopher Eden is a Consultant Urologist at The Royal Surrey County Hospital, Guildford and The Hampshire Clinic, Old Basing. He qualified in 1985 from King's College Hospital, London, winning the Surgery and Paediatric prizes. Trained in Urology at King’s College, St Thomas’ and Guy’s Hospitals in London; awarded Master of Surgery thesis in 1997 for investigating the use of alternative tissue approximation techniques for laparoscopy. Mr Eden is the author of 32 papers, 9 chapters and 1 book on laparoscopic surgery.

He performed the first laparoscopic pyeloplasty in the UK in 1994, first laparoscopic radical prostatectomy in the UK in 2000 and first laparoscopic radical cystectomy in the UK in 2001. He has the largest experience in the UK of minimal access radical prostatectomy and has performed over 2,500 major laparoscopic operations. He was described in a poll of 40 Consultant Urologists in 2010 as ‘probably the leader in the field of keyhole radical prostatectomy’.
