Gastroenterology Specialist Dietitian - BSc (Hons) Dietetics

Julie Thompson is the Information Manager at Guts UK Charity.  She is a HCPC registered health care professional who has had previous experience in gastroenterology dietetics and has a specialist interest in IBS. She started work at North Manchester General Hospital in general dietetics and then joined Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust in 2008, specialising in gastroenterology dietetics in 2009. She also worked at Salford NHS Foundation Trust as a Gastroenterology Dietitian and is working on the bank register for the hospital at the moment. She has interests in gastroenterology and has experience in treatment of food intolerances and dietary treatment of conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Crohn’s disease, colitis and coeliac disease. As the information Manager she answers queries on a wide range of topics around gut health, diseases of the digestive tract, liver and pancreas and is the content writer for the information leaflets that are available from Guts UK website www.gutscharity.org.uk Author and writer, she has written content for the Guardian, The Daily Mail, British Journal of Nursing, Nurse Prescribing Magazine, Sainsbury’s Magazine, Network Health Dietitians Magazine and Guts UK biannual magazine. Professionally, she is a member of the Gastro Specialist Group of the British Dietetic Association also a member of the British Dietetic Association Allergy group and was a member of the working group developing the UK diet practice guidelines for IBS and has published a systematic review on the use of probiotics and IBS.
