Beyond going for a walk, jog or cycle, you can’t exercise outside of your home anymore. For those of us who regularly use the gym, that ruling is going to have a big impact on the way we stay healthy and sane.

But there are plenty of free exercise tools that you can use from the comfort of your own living room. From apps you can workout to in the garden to online videos you can beam through your TV, it’s never been easier to bring the gym to you.

So, get into your gym kit, get out your mat and start working up a sweat with the best at-home workouts:

FIIT.TV

Want to be trained by a host of celebrity trainers through a mix of strength, recovery and cardio workouts? Not sure which level your fitness is at right now?

FIIT is the perfect app to download because it not only has a wide range of classes but every workout has a beginner, intermediate and advanced option. Get started now and by the time social distancing is over, you might have finished the course!

P.E with Joe

Everyone’s favourite PT, Joe Wicks, has started a daily YouTube workout designed to take kids through their paces in the absence of regular PE lessons. But just because it’s aimed at children, that doesn’t mean you can’t follow along too.

Get ready for lots of feel-good, simple movements aimed at making everyone feel more energised and positive in the weeks to come.

Nike Training Club

The NTC is best known as a running aid. However, in recent weeks it’s morphed into the ultimate home workout app – designed to support a community of living room athletes.

They say: ‘We may be stuck indoors but that doesn’t mean we can’t be active. Over the coming weeks, we’ll provide you with workouts, nutritional advice and expert help so we can all come back from this stronger than ever.’

Zombies, Run!

Not a massive running fan? How about turning your daily jog into a game, using the Zombies, Run! app?

Created by award-winning novelist Naomi Alderman, this fitness-gaming app allows you to live out your own zombie adventure story while you work out. As you log steps, you’ll hear a zombie-themed audio drama that might inspire you to pick up the pace.

Oh, and if you’re self-isolating have no fear – this is another app which has added a home workout to its arsenal so you can now fight zombies on the home front.

Yoga with Adriene

Yoga with Adriene is one of the biggest online yoga communities – and with good reason. Adriene is everything you’d want from a yoga teacher. Her YouTube channel has a yoga flow for every occasion, from hangovers to period pain, yoga for creative flows to deep stretches.

Give yourself 45 minutes on the mat and leave feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

Rowen Aida

Soul Cycle instructor and Nike trainer Rowen Aida is uploading daily live workouts onto her Instagram stories and YouTube channel.

At nearly an hour-long, these aren’t for the faint-hearted but you don’t have to do the whole thing – watch, listen and be inspired to get moving. Expect a whole lot of energy.

1RebelUK

Lots of gyms are running live workouts on Instagram for now and one of the best is 1Rebel, which is promising to help you ‘reshape from your home’.

Every day, they’re broadcasting three full-body workouts at 8.30am, 12.30pm and 5.30pm – meaning there’s a time to suit everyone. Start following @1RebelUK now and set your alarm to be on the mat in time for the next class.
